What a resident can expect

Our residence rules and guidelines

What a resident can expect:

  • Every resident is expected to comply with the House Rules and Guidelines.
  • You must maintain your sobriety. You will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Relapse is grounds for an immediate eviction with no refund.
  • You must conduct yourself in a manner conducive to, and consistent with, recovery.
  • You’ll do chores while staying at Bellevue to contribute to the functional aspects of the household. You’ll also be responsible for cooking your own lunch, cleaning your personal living space and personal hygiene.
  • You must follow the agreed curfew, with a nightly check-in.
  • You’ll be encouraged to find work or to continue working, engage in further studies or engage in community service while staying at Bellevue.
  • You must attend three 12-step meetings a week.
  • You must develop a relationship with a sponsor.
  • Monday Evening House Meetings are mandatory. These meetings allow residents to share what they did for their recovery that week, how their week has been overall and to set goals for the following week. Rules are reinforced and any roommate issues are remedied at these meetings, should they occur.
  • You are accountable for how you schedule your free time and your whereabouts when away from the Bellevue residence.

Each resident will receive:

  • A specific support worker who will arrange one-to-one support sessions with your councillor where necessary. Bellevue staff are available 24/7.
  • An admissions agreement – this sets out our obligations to you and your responsibilities with regards to the support and accommodation offered.
  • Weekly groups are scheduled and are compulsory.
  • An individualised recovery plan. This is reviewed monthly, as your needs significantly change or as requested. You have the right to disagree with needs assessments and recovery plans – you can appeal if you disagree with any decisions.
  • A self-service style breakfast is set up every morning in the kitchen from 7am.
  • Housekeeping, which includes bed linen changes, laundry and cleaning of communal areas.
  • Privacy, however, random drug and alcohol testing will be done and supervised checks of your room are carried out from time to time.
  • Dignity and respect and without discrimination.
  • Information about the cultural, spiritual and religious resources available in the area.
